WEB APPLICATIONS
It was on Tuesday, 18th of December 2012. I had my Introduction to Information Technology (FCC123) in the evening class at Lecture Theater 1. My lecturer, Miss Khairunnisha taught us about Web Applications or another name is Web Apps that an application is a piece of software. It can run on the Internet, on our computer, or on our phone or other electronic device. It also refers to any applications or services in internet. For example, Google Documents, Windows Live Hotmail, Turbo Tax online and etc. In another reference, Web browsers are software applications that allow users to retrieve data and interact with content located on web pages within a website.
These are the examples of Web Browsers: Internet Explorer
Netscape
Safari
Opera
During our lecture class, we also learnt about Web Page that contained Web Documents and HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). In Web page itself, there are two types of Web pages like Static and Dynamic Web Page.
* Calendaring
* Documents
* Videos
* Sites
* Talk
* Maps
In Static Web Page, it is known as Web 1.0 that allows people to search information and read it. This type of web page cannot be edited by visitor.
Another web page is Dynamic Web Page, it is also known as Web 2.0 that allows users or people to interact with information. Web 2.0 is the most popular term for advances Internet Technology and Applications such as; Blogs, Wikipedia, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and social bookmarking. There some examples of social sites such as; MySpace, Twitter, Friend Finder, Facebook, Classmates, Flickr, etc. In Web 2.0, comprises of the categories are Social networking, Mashup and Aggregators.
Nowadays, Google is a very big company that serves a lot of its users with the various applications. Moreover, Google Applications are widely used in the field of Information Technology and it is also available on the internet. Thus we can use them wisely and efficiently in our daily lives. Here are the examples of Google applications:
* Messaging* Calendaring
* Documents
* Videos
* Sites
* Talk
* Maps
Another addition in week ten was about Internet that is global information system and the largest network in the world that connects people/organization all over the world. The popular term for the Internet is the “information highway”.
