INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (FCC123) Week XII

Relational Database
In the evening class at 3.00pm, my classmates and I started Introduction Information Technology (FCC123) with our lovely lecturer, Miss Khairunnisha. We did a revision about the materials that were given in the previous week. It was on Tuesday 1st of January 2013 and a day to start a new year 2013. All of us were busy with our Website projects that were given in week nine. So, we just focus a bit on the revision that Miss Khairunnisha was explaining from week one to week five.
It was week twelve and the last week for us to catch up the materials that we did not study yet, such as Relational Database. In that week, we had to submit our group projects as well as our blog assignments. There were two assignments that my friends and I had to finish in week twelve, such as Websites and Blogs.  On Wednesday, I had to explain about our website because I was a leader for my group project which has three girls from Malaysia. They are Atika, Suhana, and Fara.
On Thursday, the last class for Introduction Information Technology (FCC123) with Miss Khairunnisha and It was a tutorial class in ICT Building. In the last class we learnt about Relational Database that is a collection of interrelated data stored together with controlled redundancy to serve one or more applications in an optimal way.

Database Components
1. Data Items
2. Relationships
3. Constrains
4. Schema

Data Base Management System (DBMS) is a software tool to manage incoming data, organize it, and provide ways for the data to be modified or extracted by users.
Examples of DBMS are :
Microsoft Access
Oracle
MySQL

4 types of Database

1. Hierarchical database---- to represent one to many relationships.
e.g : one child can have only one mother, but mother can have many children.
2. Network Database---Resembles hierarchical model, difference children can have many parents.
3. Relational database terminology--- relationship in database, basically table with row and column
4. Object-Relational database ----Structured Query Language (SQL) is a standardized query   language for requesting information from a database.

In conclusion, Relational Database is one to one, one to many and many to many.
