INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (FCC123) Week XI

Testing and Discussing before Final Exam.
Week eleven was on Thursday, 27th of December 2012 in tutorial class. My classmates and I were given a test according to final exam and it was just a recap from week one until week twelve. However, it was a little bit challenge when I did not know about the recap from week ten, because I was not able to attend the previous class because of the martial art tournament in UiTM Pulau Pinang a week before. I had had my times in UiTM for five days and I could not attend to the class in week ten as the week that my lecturer, Miss Khairunnisha taught us about Web Application and Internet. Moreover, after doing the test, we continued with discussing and marking papers that we did before. Alhamdulillah I did the best on the test even thought I was confused all about them. Therefore, I had to do my best on preparation to final exam because it was a second last week of teaching weeks.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (FCC123) Week X

WEB APPLICATIONS
It was on Tuesday, 18th of December 2012. I had my Introduction to Information Technology (FCC123) in the evening class at Lecture Theater 1. My lecturer, Miss Khairunnisha taught us about Web Applications or another name is Web Apps that an application is a piece of software. It can run on the Internet, on our computer, or on our phone or other electronic device. It also refers to any applications or services in internet. For example, Google Documents, Windows Live Hotmail, Turbo Tax online and etc. In another reference, Web browsers are software applications that allow users to retrieve data and interact with content located on web pages within a website.
These are the examples of Web Browsers:
Internet Explorer

  Mozilla Firefox

Netscape

Safari

Opera
During our lecture class, we also learnt about Web Page that contained Web Documents and HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). In Web page itself, there are two types of Web pages like Static and Dynamic Web Page.
In Static Web Page, it is known as Web 1.0 that allows people to search information and read it. This type of web page cannot be edited by visitor.
Another web page is Dynamic Web Page, it is also known as Web 2.0 that allows users or people to interact with information. Web 2.0 is the most popular term for advances Internet Technology and Applications such as; Blogs, Wikipedia, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and social bookmarking. There some examples of social sites such as; MySpace, Twitter, Friend Finder, Facebook, Classmates, Flickr, etc. In Web 2.0, comprises of the categories are Social networking, Mashup and Aggregators.

Nowadays, Google is a very big company that serves a lot of its users with the various applications.  Moreover, Google Applications are widely used in the field of Information Technology and it is also available on the internet. Thus we can use them wisely and efficiently in our daily lives. Here are the examples of Google applications:
                                    * Messaging
                                     * Calendaring

GROUP PROJECT
Week nine was on Tuesday, 11 December 2012 in usual class Lecture Theater room 1. My friends and I were given a group task about Information System in Air Asia Flight Company. Actually, we did it without discussion among us because some of us were busy with group report project in an organization. Week nine was a busy week with a lot of project, especially group project. I was able to lead my group as possible as I could, because I was a leader for my group. On Thursday class was 13 December 2012 in computer lab. My lecturer gave us another assignment that carries a lot of mark from Introduction to Information Technology (FCC123). It was a group project as well and the project was creating website. However, I was not good in leadership but my friends still chose me as their leader in this group project.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (FCC123) Week VIII

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
It was on Tuesday 4th of December 2012, I had my Introduction to Information Technology (FCC123) class in the evening. In week eight, I learnt about Management Information System (MIS) which is an integrated collection of people, procedures, databases and devices that provide managers and decision makers with information to help achieve organizational goals. These are the functions of a MIS that prove managers with information about operations of the organization so that they can control, organize, and plan more effectively.
In Management Information System (MIS), the INPUT is TPS (Transaction Processing System) and OUTPUT is the Reports that - Summary reports- Demand Reports- Periodic Reports. These are the features of Management Information System (MIS) that used by middle managerial levels, Use Internal data stored in computer system, Produce several kinds of reports with fixed and standard formats, and lastly draws from all departments. In that features, I could describe that Management Information System (MIS) is used in management levels and stored data in computer system in order to support structured decision and provide the right information to the right person in the right format at the right time.

DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM (DSS)
An organized collection of people, procedures, software, databases and devices used to support problem-specific decision making. A decision-support system provides a flexible tool for analysis. In DSS system, the features of itself as INPUT include Internal and External used to support unstructured problems. It also can handle large amounts of data from different sources and Consist of 4 part (U, S, D, DM).

EXECUTIVE SUPPORT SYSTEM (ESS)
During my class, I also learnt about Executive Support system that designed to support higher level of DM in Organization. The capability in this system is they help executives and senior managers analyse the environment in which the organization operates, to identify long-term trends, and to plan appropriate courses of action, and lastly Present summary information designed for top executives.
There are 4 Characteristics of ESS
1. TPS+MIS+DSS.
2. Gain direct access information about company.
3. Used only at the most senior management levels.
4. Use internal and external data sources.

EXPERT SYSTEM (ES)
The class was amazing when my lecturer taught us about an Expert System that has been developed to diagnosed problems, predict future events and solve problems. It was a nice part of Information System because Expert systems are part of a general category of computer applications known as artificial intelligence.

OTHER INFORMATION SYSTEM
This was a last thing that I learnt in week eight, another information system as known as Other Information System, such as: Office Automation System, Business Information System, Strategic Information System, and Enterprise Resource Planning system.
Above all, the operating IS as using in business field as I could summarize that two things are used like, Office Automation System, and Business Information System.
What are the two things that explained about in the IS, Office Automation system collects, processes, stores and transmits data and information in the form of electronic office communication. Whereas the Business information systems support the operational and managerial applications of the basic business functions of a firm.
I have leant all about Information System for the whole week, and I could understand a little bit only. I wish I could understand what the lecturer has taught me about IS and the other thing in order to make myself more expert at Information System.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (FCC123) Week VII

RECAP AND TRANSACTION PROCESSING SYSTEM (TPS)
After having a week holiday, my class-mates and I continued study in week seven and we were taught about TPS (Transaction Processing System). Before that, our lecturer, Miss Khairunnisha explained us a little bit about recap from previous class. There were Information, System, Three basic interacting components of system, and CBIS (Computer Base Information System). It was on Tuesday class 27th of September 2012 and we enjoyed afternoon class at 4.00pm till 5.00pm. In that week, I have learnt all about function or rules of CBIS that support competitive advantage, support business decision making and support business operation & processes.
Transaction Processing System (TPS) is the transaction processing system records the data from everyday operations throughout every division or department in the organization. Each division or department is connected through the TPS to provide useful information to management levels throughout the company. These are the features of TPS such as; one TPS for each department, used by operational personnel and supervisory levels, TPS is the backbone of an organization’s information systems, monitor, collect, store and process data generated from business transaction. However, the components of TPS that used in transactions are  People as The user of the information system is the person belonging to the organisation that owns the transaction system, Participants are the people who conduct the information processing /  participants of the system as they directly enter transactions and perform validation, hardware, and software.
In the last class of the week, Thursday 29th of September 2012 my lecturer taught us about Bibliography in tutorial class. It was taught about how we used it in our group project, Information System in Seulawah Hypermarket. It was an easy way how we could use the Bibliography as our references in our group project. This was an example of my Bibliography that I did in my tutorial class in the week eighth.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (FCC123) Week VI

THE FIRST MID-TRIMESTER EXAM

In this week, I had my first mid-trimester exam at night at 8.30pm to 10.00pm. It was on Monday 12th of November 2012. The exam was in examination hall 2, CFS building level 2. I was able to answer all the questions even though I was sick in that night. Moreover, the exam was a little bit easier than test one, because the questions were given in multiple choices and I also prepared well before the exam. My classmates and I had to finish all the questions in one hour and a half.

One day after exam, my lecturer had finished marking all the exam papers and she passed up to us according to the highest mark. It was on Wednesday 14th of November 2012, and it was morning class. In that morning, my lecturer called our names and passed up the exam papers accordingly. I was very upset when I got my exam paper because my mark was 31 over 40. After my lecturer giving the exam papers, she continued with discussing on our exam question and there were a lot of benefits when we discussed them again.
In addition, that week was a very nice week because it had a lot of holidays. Firstly, Depavaly day, it was on Tuesday. That day was a celebration day for Tamil or Indian people in Malaysia. Another holiday was Islamic first year or the first Muharram. It was a holiday for Muslim people in Malaysia and all over the world.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (FCC123) Week V

IT & ICT
In the first trimester of my foundation studies, week five is the busiest week because my lecturer had to finish all the Information Technology that related to Information Communication and Technology. Firstly, my class started on Tuesday at 3.00pm in Lecture Theater 01. My friends and I were taught about Information Technology (IT) that was a term refers to all forms of technology that used to create, store, exchange, and use information in its various forms, like telecommunications product. There were two concepts of Information Technology that my lecturer had explained us, such as; Information Technology Architecture and Information Technology Infrastructure. In addition, Information Technology Architecture was a map or plan of the information assets in an organization. Another thing was Information Technology Infrastructure that was the physical facilities, IT components (computer hardware, software, and communication technologies), IT services (data management, system development, and security management), and IT personnel (people/individual work with IT&IS) that support an entire organization.
In that week, I also learnt Information Communication and Technology (ICT). It was on Wednesday 7th of November 2012 and the class was in the morning at 10.30am.My lecturer explained us about ICT refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. It was similar to Information Technology (IT), but focuses primarily on communication technologies that include the Internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums. Nowadays, the usage of ICT has changed society today as much as the industrial revolution changed society in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, like the usage ICT in Education, Banking, Business, Government, Sciences, and Healthcare.
In the end of class, my lecturer gave me a project that describes how ICT used in the field of science in my country. It was a group project that included all my country-mates from Indonesia. My country-mates and I described about Java Edu-Game which was an application for gaming and importance to students who loved playing game in order to make them knowledgeable in sciences, mathematic as well as computer technology.

INFORMATION SYSTEM
System Information was a set of elements or components. I learnt this system in my tutorial class on Friday, 9th of November 2012. Actually, System Information was an application of computer based Information Technology (combinations of hardware, software, infrastructure, and trained personnel) used to facilitate planning, control, coordination, and decision making in an organization. There were three main things in information system in organization such as; business, people, and information.
Above all, the information system that related to hardware, software, database, people, and procedure are to build the payroll, library management, marketing, and campus management system. Moreover, Computer Base Information System (CBIS) is interrelated components.

these are the COMPONENTS OF CBIS :
1. PEOPLE-----ManageRunProgrammaintain---System.
2.TELECOMMUNICATION-----Electronic transmission of signals for communications which enables organizations to carry out their processes and task through effective computer networks.
3. SOFTWARE-----Consist of computer programs that govern the operation of the computer.
4. HARDWARE----- Consists of computer equipment used to perform input, processing and output activities.
5. DATABASE-----An organized collection of interrelated data (records)
6. PROCEDURE------Strategies, policies, methods and rules for using computer information system including operation, security and maintenance of the computer.

Another thing that I learnt from my lecturer, Miss Khairunnisha was :
Networks: connect computers and equipment in a building, around the country or around the world to enable electronic communication.
Internet: World’s largest computer network actually consisting of thousands of interconnected networks all freely exchanging information.
